A gentle, relational way to belong in nature
Nature Companions is a community wellness program offering slow, sensory‑friendly, trauma‑informed nature experiences in Vancouver, Washington. We create spaces where people can feel safe, welcomed, and supported outdoors regardless of experience, ability, or comfort level.
Our work is grounded in the belief that nature connection is a basic human need. When people are given time, gentleness, and companionship, the natural world becomes a place of belonging rather than pressure or performance.
🌱 Our Philosophy
Nature connection is relational
We don’t treat nature as a backdrop or a challenge to conquer. We approach it as a relationship. All good relationships are built slowly, with curiosity and care.
Every program is shaped by:
- Sensory awareness
- Emotional safety
- Consent‑based participation
- Slow pacing
- Respect for lived experience
- Non‑clinical, non‑judgmental support
There is no “right way” to be in nature. There is only your way, at your pace.
🌳 The Five Pathways of Nature Connectedness
A research‑backed foundation
Nature Companions is guided by the Five Pathways of Nature Connectedness, developed by Miles Richardson at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. These pathways help people build meaningful, lasting relationships with the natural world.
Senses — slowing down, grounding, and noticing Emotion — feeling supported, safe, and connected Beauty — finding wonder in the ordinary Meaning — personal stories, metaphors, and reflection Compassion — care for self, others, and the natural world
These principles shape every session we offer — from forest bathing to mindful photography.

Nature‑based facilitator, writer, and community advocate
I co-created Nature Companions with Suzanne Moreno to offer the kind of nature experiences I wish more people had access to — slow, relational, sensory‑aware, and emotionally safe.
My work blends trauma‑informed practice, contemplative creativity, and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience. I believe that nature connection is not about expertise or athleticism. It’s about presence, curiosity, and companionship.
I’m committed to creating spaces where people can feel grounded, supported, and welcomed exactly as they are.

I’m thrilled to co-create Nature Companions. For over twenty years, I’ve worked as a counselor supporting individuals navigating physical, developmental, and mental health challenges.
My study of ecotherapy has shown me that our most powerful healing mechanism comes directly from the earth. Nature truly is the best medicine.
My goal is to ensure that people of all backgrounds and abilities feel comfortable, safe, and deeply inspired by the beauty that surrounds us.
I look forward to connecting with you!

- Predictable structure
- Sensory accommodations
- Flexible pacing
- Non‑hierarchical relationships
- Respect for autonomy and consent
We work with individuals, community groups, and partner organizations to ensure that nature connection is accessible to everyone.
🌙 Why Nature Companions Exists
We are here because so many people have been told — directly or indirectly — that nature is not for them. We understand that sometimes outdoor spaces can feel overwhelming, unsafe, or inaccessible. Know well that slowing down is a skill we learn together. Nature connections are healing, grounding, and deeply human. Because everyone deserves a place to belong. And because Nature Companions believes You Belong in Nature.
🌾 Let’s Walk Together
If you’re curious about joining a session, referring someone, or exploring a partnership, we’d love to connect.
